Operation 2025: Democrats’ Imperative for Strengthening Democracy and Global Peace
As the 2024 election looms on the horizon, Democrats face a pivotal moment in American history. With the possibility of securing control of the House, Senate, and Presidency, there exists a critical opportunity to enact transformative legislation that addresses the pressing challenges facing our nation and the world. Should Democrats emerge victorious, they must immediately prioritize a bold agenda aimed at safeguarding democracy, advancing equality, protecting fundamental rights, restoring integrity to our institutions, and promoting global peace.
Freedom to Vote Act (S. 2747): The Freedom to Vote Act is a comprehensive piece of legislation designed to protect and expand voting rights for all Americans. While it currently does not include H.J. Res. 14, Democrats must advocate for its inclusion, as H.J. Res. 14 seeks to abolish the Electoral College, ensuring that every citizen’s vote counts equally in presidential elections. Furthermore, the act aims to end partisan gerrymandering, ensuring fair representation in congressional districts.
Equality Act (H.R. 5): The Equality Act is essential legislation aimed at combating discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. It provides comprehensive protections against discrimination in employment, housing, education, and public accommodations. By enacting this bill, Democrats can advance the cause of LGBTQ+ equality and ensure that all Americans are treated with dignity and respect under the law.
Women’s Health Protection Act (H.R. 8296): The Women’s Health Protection Act safeguards reproductive freedom by protecting access to abortion care and ensuring that women can make their own healthcare decisions without interference from politicians or special interests. This vital legislation upholds the constitutional right to reproductive choice and protects women’s access to essential healthcare services.
Expand the Respect for Marriage Act (H.R. 8404): The Respect for Marriage Act affirms the rights of LGBTQ+ couples to marry and have their marriages recognized at the federal level. By repealing the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), this legislation promoted equality and ensured that all families are treated equally under the law, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. This became law in 2022, but must now be a constitutional amendment to protect its provisions from judicial overreach and an extremist Supreme Court.
Supreme Court Ethics Act (S. 2512) and Judicial Integrity Act (H.R. 7676): These bills establish ethical standards for Supreme Court justices and federal judges, ensuring our courts remain impartial and free from partisan influence. In addition to existing provisions, these acts must include language stipulating that Supreme Court Justices may not receive gifts of money, travel, or any other type of gift that could be considered, even in appearance, as a bribe. This crucial addition would further safeguard the integrity and independence of the judiciary, ensuring that justices remain impartial and free from undue influence.
No President is Above the Law Act (H.R. 2678): This crucial legislation holds presidents accountable for their actions and prevents abuse of power. By reaffirming the principle that no one, not even the President, is above the law, Democrats can protect the integrity of our democracy and ensure accountability in government.
Proposed Electronic Voting Act: As a visionary concept proposed by citizens, the Electronic Voting Act would mandate the development and implementation of a secure and user-friendly electronic voting platform. This groundbreaking legislation, inspired by innovative ideas from the public, aims to increase voter participation and ensure the integrity of our elections by allowing registered voters to cast their ballots securely and conveniently using a single, secure website managed by the Federal Election Commission (FEC), overseen by the FBI, CIA, and NSA, and secured through Cloudflare’s Content Delivery Network (CDN). Utilizing Cloudflare’s CDN (or another CDN) would provide an additional layer of security for the voting website and app. By distributing data across multiple servers worldwide, Cloudflare ensures faster loading times and protects against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, which can disrupt or shut down websites. Moreover, Cloudflare’s Web Application Firewall (WAF) offers advanced security features to mitigate threats and prevent unauthorized access to the voting platform. With Cloudflare’s robust infrastructure and cybersecurity measures in place, the electronic voting system would be safeguarded against potential cyber threats, ensuring the integrity and reliability of the voting process.
Promoting Global Peace and Human Rights: In addition to domestic priorities, Democrats must prioritize global peace and human rights. This includes proposing and passing a bill that would provide massive funding for Ukraine to finish the war with Russia once and for all, putting Putin in his place and ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty and security. By bolstering Ukraine’s defenses and supporting its efforts to counter Russian aggression, Democrats can send a strong message that acts of aggression will not be tolerated on the world stage.
Furthermore, Democrats should work towards the ultimate goal of accepting Ukraine into NATO, thereby solidifying peace in Europe and deterring further Russian aggression. By expanding NATO membership to include Ukraine, Democrats can demonstrate unwavering support for the principles of democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while also sending a clear signal to Putin that his aggressive actions will be met with a united front from the international community.
As Democrats stand on the brink of a potential victory in the 2024 election, they must prioritize an agenda (that I’m calling ‘Operation 2025’) that not only strengthens democracy, advances equality, and promotes global peace and human rights but also stands up to authoritarian regimes and defends the principles of freedom and sovereignty around the world. By taking swift and decisive action on these critical issues, Democrats can fulfill their mandate and pave the way for a brighter future for all. The time for action is now.
